News From Mobile World Congress

Today, in concert with our hardware partners, we announced a refresh of Windows Phone 7.5 that supports low-memory devices, making Windows Phone more affordable than ever before. While Windows Phone has always supported 256 MB RAM devices; what’s new is that with this release, we are providing an incremental revision of our OS to substantially improve the end user experience on these more affordable devices.

In addition, we also announced the expansion of the Windows Phone Marketplace to consumers in an additional 23 markets, including; Bahrain, Bulgaria, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, Estonia, Iceland, Iraq, Israel, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, Ukraine, Venezuela and Vietnam.

We’re excited to bring these new enhancements to the developer community. Read on for more information on how you can learn more and take advantage of this expanded footprint.

SDK Technical Preview Now Available

To help you test and fine-tune your applications for these new devices, we’re providing an update to the Windows Phone SDK. Today we’re releasing a technical preview of the SDK update that gives you access to the 256MB emulator to let you determine how your apps install and run on lower memory devices. This preview does not include a “go live” license so you can’t publish apps created with it. A final version of the SDK, complete with the go-live license, will be available next month.
