Download the Windows Phone SDK 7.1 RC and use it to create mobile apps that target Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 7.5. The free WPSDK toolkit provides everything a WP dev needs to build and test a game or app.
The Release Candidate (RC) build allows developers to build their Windows Phone 7.5 apps with confidence that their apps perform as designed on the phone’s final OS release.
It’s worth noting that this release works fine with the pre-release builds of Zune and Windows Phone 7.5 that we released last month (build 7712). There have been no application platform changes between builds 7712 and 7720 of the OS, so devs should be fine continuing to use their devices with the WPSDK 7.1 until Windows Phone 7.5 is made available from their Mobile Operator.
Perhaps most importantly, the WPSDK 7.1 RC includes a ‘Go Live’ license, which empowers you to publish your apps to the Windows Phone Marketplace. In order to take advantage of the ‘Go Live’ license and publish, your apps must be compiled using the WPSDK 7.1 RC or RTW release. If you built your app using the WPSDK 7.1 Beta 2 Refresh released last month, it should be as simple as a recompile and test. If you built your code using one of the two betas, your code may require some additional tweaks.
With the RC released, we now start the march towards RTW (Release to Web). We will be releasing the final, RTW release of the Windows Phone SDK 7.1 towards the end of September. The differences between RC and RTW are expected to be minor – mostly visual tweaks and ‘fit and finish’. We will also be releasing the other localized versions of the WPSDK.
