App Hub Application Submission Walkthrough - Step 2:
Provide the Application Description
There are two parts to this page. In this first part, you'll provide details about your application that will appear in the Windows Phone Marketplace. If you're submitting a game, you can also provide ratings information for the game. For additional guidance about providing application details, see the Application Submission Checklist and the Best Practices for Application Marketing.
Provide the following information to submit your application. You'll repeat these steps for each language that your XAP package supports.
- Category - Use the dropdown boxes to select a category and subcategory for the type of application that you're submitting. The category that you select for your application may have tax implications that are associated with sales and royalties. Categories and subcategories are independent of the language or languages in your XAP file. Some categories don't have subcategories. For more information about categories, see the Windows Phone App Hub FAQ.
- (language or languages) - The languages on this page are pulled programmatically from your XAP file. One language at a time, select a language and then fill in all required fields.
- (language) app name - This is filled in for you from the Title that you specified in the XAP file.
- Short description - A brief description of your application that can be used to merchandise your app in the Windows Phone Marketplace and featured app listings. There's a 25-character limit to this description.
- Detailed description - A detailed description of the application and its functionality. There's a 2,000-character limit to this description.
- Keywords - Keywords that can be used to assist users in finding your application in the Windows Phone Marketplace. A maximum of five keywords can be used, separated by commas.
- Legal URL - A URL that links to legal terms, copyrights, or trademarks associated with your application. This field is optional.
- Email address - An email address that consumers can use to contact you or your company with questions about this application. This field is optional; however, providing this information makes it possible for users to contact you.

Upload the Artwork
In this second part, you'll upload the artwork that represents your application in the Windows Phone Marketplace catalog. For additional guidance about providing high-quality artwork for the Windows Phone Marketplace, see the Application Submission Checklist and the Best Practices for Application Marketing.
Warning
The artwork that you submit here must be in PNG format and can't have a transparent background. Artwork with a transparent background doesn't display correctly in the Windows Phone Marketplace catalog.

The fastest way to upload your artwork is to click on the Browse button next to Select artwork images. Now you can browse to the file location of your artwork and multiselect all image files that you want to use. These images will be automatically populated for your reviews. Alternatively, you can upload the following artwork by clicking the "+" signs. You can replace an already-selected image by clicking on the image and selecting a new image to upload. The recommended resolution for all images is 96 dpi.
- Large mobile app Tile - Users see the large mobile app Tile when they're browsing the application catalog before making a purchase.
- Small mobile app Tile - Users see the small mobile app Tile in the Marketplace search results and catalog listing.
- Large PC app Tile - Users see the large PC app Tile in the marketplace catalog.
- Background art - The background art image is optional and used if your application is chosen as a Windows Phone Marketplace featured application. Users see this image in the Marketplace catalog on the phone as well as the Marketplace catalog.
- Screenshots - You must provide at least one screenshot. The screenshot should be a direct capture of the phone screen or emulator. You can provide up to eight screenshots of your application. Users see the screenshot of your application in the details page of the Windows Phone Marketplace catalog on the phone and in Zune. Graphically enhanced screenshots aren't allowed. For more information, see How to: Create Screenshots for Windows Phone Marketplace.
